explain the difference between vegetarian and vegan food

Vegan food

Vegan food is intended to be as plant-based as possible, so it's likely to contain a lot of vegetable proteins. This is veganism, and vegetarians can make it vegan, or vegan can make it vegetarian, but not vegetarians can make it vegan.

This means there's almost no difference in taste or texture between vegetarian and vegan food. Vegetarians will usually eat meat and dairy products as a way of feeling better for their diet, but a lot of vegetarian dishes, like vegan versions of egg and dairy-based sauces and gravies, use a lot of tofu or tempeh in their recipe.

The real difference between vegan and vegetarian foods comes down to choices and tastes. Vegetarians generally prefer vegetarian foods like beans and grains, while vegans prefer soy and nuts. Vegan food is generally what I'd call a better-for-you version of the same food we eat all the time, made without the cheap calories that people get from beef, pork, and cheese.

So what's a vegan to do when food is everywhere? I'm a vegan myself, but I go out to eat as a vegetarian just as often as I go out to eat as a vegan. I just can't make a real choice in terms of meat or dairy. I do however prefer vegetarian restaurants that offer vegetarian options.

I've met so many vegetarian-turned-vegans who claim that vegan food is no better than non-vegetarian food. But when a lot of vegetables are used in a dish or condiment, like with vegan pesto or vegan chicken, we can expect a much better taste.

Vegetarian food

From my point of view, vegan food has come a long way in just a few decades. We've made tremendous progress. I wouldn't tell anyone they need to go all vegan or vegetarian just to eat a decent meal. But if you feel that you could make a better choice at the restaurant or at a grocery store, or if you find a more interesting vegetarian restaurant to go to, please go and try it!

If you're a vegetarian who's had a hard time finding food, or if you want to give vegan food a try, don't forget to eat plant-based dishes when you get to the grocery store. Just make sure you pick foods that don't need to be refrigerated, so you can use them all year round.

The vegan diet is a healthy one, and the taste is always changing. Now you have the chance to taste the changes and see what's new and interesting and what's not. The more variety we have in food choices, the more variety we have in the whole of our lives.
